Student Support

Tutoring
CCF can arrange tutoring for students who ask for it.  Some subjects students have been tutored on in the past include math, foreign language, research, statistics, and writing.  CCF staff will try to find a tutor for any academic need.

Mentoring
Mentors assist students with developing skills to achieve their academic goals by providing constructive feedback, advice, and support.  A mentor helps the student identify and work on strengths and weaknesses in academic performance and helps the student envision a long-term plan.  Mentors facilitate a supportive environment that encourages learning to take place.

Academic Counseling
The academic counselor assists incoming students with the application process, financial aid, and course selection.  The counselor is available to students to deal with academic and referral needs that arise during the course of each students degree program. Academic support includes arranging for tutors and mentors and providing information on scholarships, academic programs, and employment opportunities.

Support Group
The support group was created to provide CCF students with a supportive environment to discuss personal issues with their peers.  The support group is facilitated by two CCF students, and it meets several times a year in different venues. Meetings are open to all members of the community.

Resource Referral
CCF is an academic program, and has a small staff.  As a result, CCF leaves it to other excellent organizations to provide other services that fellows may need, such as mental health counseling, job development, HIV/AIDS services, substance abuse treatment, domestic violence intervention, etc. There is an extensive resource listing on this Web site in the Resources & Links section.

Listserv
The listserv was created for the CCF community to communicate effectively and easily.  Students, staff, board members, mentors, and other community members are free to post on the CCF listserv.  Posts include news and events, upcoming meetings, special events, textbooks for sale, job listings, and more.

Above all, CCF offers a community of students and staff who are familiar with the issues faced by students who have been formerly incarcerated.
